Cách sử dụng Prefer, Would prefer, Would rather hiệu quả trong tiếng Anh

I. Cấu trúc Prefer

Về cơ bản, ta sử dụng cấu trúc Prefer to V hoặc cấu trúc Prefer V-ing để diễn tả việc thích điều gì hơn. Dưới đây là các cấu trúc cơ bản đi với động từ prefer.

1. Cấu trúc Prefer something to something

E.g. I prefer this dress to the one you wore yesterday. (Anh thích loại váy này hơn loại em đã mặc ngày hôm qua.)

2. Cấu trúc Prefer V-ing to V-ing

E.g. I prefer flying to travelling by train. (Tôi thích đi máy bay hơn đi tàu.)

a. Thích một thứ gì đó

S + prefer + N/ to V/ Ving…

Lưu ý: Prefer to V và Prefer Ving về căn bản là giống nhau, đều được dùng dưới các trường hợp như nhau để chỉ sở thích của người nào đó. Tuy vậy, Prefer to V vẫn được quen sử dụng hơn.

b. Thích cái này hơn cái kia

S + prefer + N + to + N

S + prefer + V-ing + to + V-ing

S + prefer + to V + rather than + V

II. Cách sử dụng Prefer

Dùng khi muốn diễn tả sở thích hoặc thích điều gì đó hơn.

Cấu trúc:

Prefer to (do)

Prefer – Ving

S + Prefer sth to sth (Thích cái gì hơn cái gì)

Prefer doing sht to doing sth = prefer to do sth rather than (do) sth

III. Cấu trúc Would prefer

Cấu trúc Would prefer được sử dụng khi muốn diễn tả một điều mình thích hơn. Dưới đây là những cấu trúc Would prefer thường gặp:

1. Would prefer + to + V + rather than + V

Cấu trúc này có tức là muốn một cái gì đó hơn một cái gì đó khác

2. Cấu trúc Would prefer to V

Cấu trúc này sử dụng để diễn ra người nào đó thích cái gì đó.

Lưu ý: Cấu trúc Would prefer thường được dùng dưới bối cảnh bắt buộc sự lịch sự, trang trọng nhiều hơn là dưới bối cảnh giao tiếp thường ngày.

IV. Cách dùng would prefer

Dùng khi muốn nói tới điều mà mình muốn làm dưới tình huống đầy đủ nào đó.

Cấu trúc:

Would prefer sth (+ or+sth)” (thích cái gì ‘hơn cái gì’)

Would prefer to do

V. Cấu trúc Would rather

1. Cấu trúc would rather ở thì hiện tại

Cấu trúc 1: S + would rather + V

Cấu trúc Would rather V có ý nghĩa gần như tương đương với cấu trúc Would prefer to V, đều có tức là thích gì (hơn).

Lưu ý : Câu phủ định của cấu trúc would rather sẽ là cấu trúc would rather not V

Cấu trúc 2: S + Would rather + V + than + V

Cấu trúc này có tức là thích làm việc gì đó hơn việc gì khác.

2. Cấu trúc would rather tại thể quá khứ

Cấu trúc: S + would rather + V-P1

Cấu trúc này được dùng để diễn tả việc muốn/ không muốn người khác làm một điều gì đó hơn.

Lưu ý:  Trong cấu trúc này, chúng ta sử dụng động từ tại thì Quá khứ (came, did, …) nhưng ý nghĩa lại là hiện nay hoặc tương lai.

Dạng phủ định của cấu trúc này là Would rather somebody didn’t V
